Masters at Cherrybrook
Masters athletics is
for athletes aged 30 and over, and is divided into 5 year age groups
(30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, etc). Cherrybrook Masters compete as part
of the Friday night program during the summer season running from
September through to the middle of March each year, following the same
program as our seniors, as well as a winter and summer program prepared
by Athletics NSW. Masters can also compete during the winter Cross
Country season from May through to July.
You don't have to have been an athlete in your youth
to do Masters events; many people take it up in later life, to keep fit
and have fun, or to try something new. As well as Friday night
club sessions, there
are many additional opportunities to compete, including All Comers
events at Homebush, State Relays, Masters State Titles or Australian or
World Masters Games
NOTE: you also
need to be a member of the NSW Masters Athletics Association in
order to compete in NSW, Australian or World Masters events (ie National
or World Championships, run by the Australian Masters Association (AMA)
or World Masters Association (WMA), or NSW events run by NSW Masters Association (NSWMA).
Details are at their website www.nswmastersathletics.org.au
Further
information on all Masters events is located on the NSWMA and AMA
websites.
Training: Available throughout the season at Cherrybrook oval on
Monday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings. For any coaching
enquiries in relation
to Seniors, please contact our coaching co-ordinator Valme Kruger (Level
4 Coach) on 0402 126 060.
So, if you've ever watched your kids do an event and wanted to try it
for yourself, consider joining our Masters group - you might surprise
yourself!
